Will There Be History in America?
January February 2008

Welcome to the pages of OUT FRONT MAGAZINE. This issue is special because it’s our Annual Black Heritage Edition. Each year we take the time to pay homage to African-Americans that have positively shaped America to what it is today. We also like to spotlight people and organizations that are making a difference in our communities.

What does an educator do when he recognizes the need for young people, especially young black men, to be spiritually sound, academically prepared, healthily skeptical, historically grounded, and socially informed? He opens an academy that’s based on these principles. Meet James Williams, the mastermind and founder of the James Williams Academy beginning on page 10.

The African American Media Coalition has formed and is ready to help better our community. This group shares their mission and how they will be the eyes and ears of the African-American community in issues that directly and indirectly affect us beginning on page 14.

Will there be history in America? The 2008 Presidential Election is hopeful for a change for the better. Will this change be found in the form of the first female President – Hillary Clinton or in the form of the first African-American President – Barack Obama? Review what the candidates have to offer beginning on page 19. The decision is in our hands. Please exercise your right to vote.

The 100 Black Women has made it financially possible for several young people to pursue a higher education. Its Annual Hat Show brings this dream to a reality. Experience “Hattitude” in the perfect “Hatmosphere” beginning on page 26.

Lola Shonaike is not your typical high school sophomore. This young lady may just be the next best-selling American author. Preview her first book, Skin Deep: The Monster under the Make-up, on page 32.

OUT FRONT MAGAZINE will continue to strive in our commitment to give our readers the best coverage of issues, historical events and entertainment that affect the African-American experience.

PRAY FOR OUR COMMUNITIES; FOR OUR NATION; AND FOR OUR WORLD.
